Have you been to Tasmania before? Things are slow Have you been to Tasmania before? Things are slowly getting back to normal in Australia, well a COVID normal that is. Victoria has now been 28 days without a new COVID infection, and we have 0 active cases. Today the border between Victoria and Tasmania re opens. To celebrate we thought we would share the route of our first multi destination road trip. Mya and I took the Spirit of Tasmania across bass straight and went on a 12 day road trip around 1552 km of Tasmania. The highlight was seeing a pod of Orcas, whilst the low point was Mya rolling in a dead carcass in the middle of nowhere. I still remember that smell and the adventure we had trying to find a place to wash her. We've posted the the trip as a route on Road Trips by @TomTomDrivers. IMPORTANT When we first took Mya on a walk up at IMPORTANT When we first took Mya on a walk up at Mt Buller along the trails she was allowed on, my first thought was she was allowed in more areas than I had originally expected, my second thought was how much I love the place, how beautiful and special it is, and my third was it's disgusting how much rubbish there is. That's why last weekend we took Mya's @ruffwear hiking pack with us. We decided that whilst taking Mya for her walks, we would pickup up trash, to try and clean up an area so important to us. Who says dogs are bad for the environment 😉🐶. We filled her pack with rubbish; empty cans, a home made bong, bottle caps, cigarette butts, McDonalds containers (there isn't even a McDonald's within two hours drive of the mountain village) and other junk. I still don't understand why people would empty rubbish from their car, in an alpine resort, instead of at petrol station where there is a bin, or at home. Driving home later that night, I noticed how much rubbish was on the side of the road, clearly thrown out the windows whilst people are driving. Have you noticed this? If we want these beautiful places to be around for us to enjoy, then we need to take better care of them. Over summer I'm going to keep walking these trails with Mya and her pack, hopefully leaving them in better condition than we found them. People often say that having a social media presence the size we do, it's our responsibility to speak up when we come across issues like this. Since Sunday we've had several people message us, telling us they have been inspired to do the same. We were stoked to hear that. Is this happening in an area special to you? Please encourage others to do the right thing. PLEASE NOTE: Dogs are only allowed entry to Alpine Resorts with a permit and Mya is very privileged to meet the criteria and have been issued a permit.
Is this not the cutest face? We often get asked w Is this not the cutest face? We often get asked what seat cover we use for our adventures with Mya. Well we were lucky enough to be asked to try out two different products from @pawmanity; their Pawmanity Cago Liner and the Pawmanity Hammock. For day to day travel, Mya ends up in the very back of the 4x4, but on long road trips, I like for her to be on the back seat so she feels more included, and that's when the hammock comes in handy. There is a mesh that safely keeps Mya seperated in the back, but still allows her to see what's going on. It also makes a pretty cozy headrest for her. The hammock has two storage pockets which have been useful for organising leads, harnesses and towels etc. Over the last 12 months of using the Pawmanity seat covers, they have been exposed to sand, mud, snow, a soaking wet Mya, upto four different dogs and of course all of Mya’s fur. I'm really happy with how it's protected the interior of the car and its been pretty easy to remove and then either hose down, or vacuum clean. One of the things I do love most about the Pawmanity seat covers is the quality of the materials used. The covers aren't thin material like those you'll find in some department stores and that's why my mother and sister have also started using them. If you're looking at protecting your car, whilst taking your pup on adventures we highly recommend check out the Pawmanity range. Over the weekend, we were finally able to escape M Over the weekend, we were finally able to escape Melbourne to Mount Buller. It kind of feels weird being happy about that, knowing how bad things are getting for many of our friends in the northern hemisphere. Many of you would know what a monumental thing, being able to take Mya with me to Mount Buller is. For those of you who don't, Mount Buller is an incredibly special place for me. It's where my grandfather taught me to ski, where we spent numerous family holidays and where my father passed away. For much of my adult life, I have visited Mount Buller on the weekends throughout winter, however since having Mya I have become incredibly torn between visiting a place incredibly special to me, and my responsibilities to Mya. You see Mount Buller is an Alpine Resort, which means dogs aren't permitted unless they have a permit issued by the resort management. The only way to get a permit is to own or rent a property up there. This has frustrated me for many years, however this year things finally aligned for us. A cheap one bedroom apartment was listed for sale and the value of my house had gone up enough. With alot of hard work, I was able to extend the mortgage on my home and with family we were able to buy the apartment. Mya was finally eligible for a permit, and this weekend we visited Mount Buller together. We explored the trails that Mya's permit allowed her to be on, and drove over to the very scenic Craig's Hut (Dog friendly), which we will tell you about in greater detail another time. We now only have four active cases in the state, and Melbourne and the rest of Victoria are open again. Our first trip overnight trip out of Melbourne, will be up to Mt Buller together, and I can't wait to take Mya with me now that she has a permit. And whilst we are still hoping to be able to head around Australia starting April 2021, we plan to stay a little more local until then. We want to support the local tourism industry who have been doing it tough. The best way we know how to do this, is to help inspire people to take some local road trips. Our friends @PETstock_Australia asked us to share Our friends @PETstock_Australia asked us to share our top 6 products for summer (Be sure to save this one for later). 1. Buddy & Belle Cooling Mat A glance at Mya will tell you she is better suited to colder temperatures than hot. This cooling mat has become her must-have summer accessory. Last summer it was great helping her to regulate her body temperature & feel more comfortable. Unlike other mats we have used, it uses gel instead of water, so it's light enough to travel with. 2. Adaptil Calm On The Go Collar With so many celebrations over summer, it's the peak time of year for fireworks,  which Mya isn't a fan of. Last years we tried out a variety of strategies to make them less stressful & the collar made a big difference. It releases pheromones that a mother dog produces for her puppies, to reassure Mya that everything is ok. 3. EzyDog DFD Mya & I regularly go out on the water over summer, & a dog flotation device is a must! We've used a few brands now & the thing I love about this one, is the storage pockets for poop bags & a ball etc. More importantly it has a handle to pull Mya’s 40kgs of body weight back into a boat, if she ever ends up in the water. I’ve also found while wearing the vest, her confidence in the water has increased. 4. Beco Travel Bowl This collapsible bowl makes it easy to keep Mya hydrated when we are out & about on adventures. It packs away easily in one of our bags, or the car, & I love that it’s 100% recyclable too. 5. NexGuard Spectra Flea & Worm Chewables While summer is the time for fun, it’s also the season for ticks. Whilst I know nothing about animal pharmaceuticals, our vet Emily at PETstock recommended these chewable tablets (that Mya actually enjoys) to protect her from fleas, ticks, heartworms & worms. And whilst I dont usually give Mya her treatments at the beach, I thought a photo in our kitchen wasn't very summer like. 6. Chuck It Ziplight Medium Flyer The ChuckIt Ziplight Flyer is one of Mya’s favourite water toys! It’s made for the water & can float, as well as fly ensuring our time at the beach is lots of fun. Sadly we have had several of our friends loose their furry family members recently. It doesn't matter how old they are, it's always going to be too soon. I'm sure many of us can relate after having lost a furry mate who has touched our lives. I wanted to make this post a bit of a tribute to those we have had to said goodbye to. Feel free share the name of an animal who has been a part your life and anything else you would like to share about them. I'd like to leave you with two of my favourite quotes about this.
